Eni, alongside its project partners Petroci and Vitol, has formally reached FID for the Baleine Phase 3 development offshore Côte d'Ivoire, ushering in a new expansion stage for West Africa's flagship offshore hydrocarbon asset. Situated in 1,200-meter deep waters, the Baleine field adopts a highly efficient phased development strategy. Its first two phases leveraged converted floating facilities to kick off early production, delivering stronger performance than initially projected.
Unlike the retrofitted facilities deployed in earlier phases, Baleine Phase 3 will feature a newly built, custom-designed FPSO, engineered to deliver superior operational efficiency, rigorous safety standards and reduced environmental footprint. The new unit will drive a substantial production upgrade, boosting the field's oil output from 60,000 barrels per day to 150,000 bpd and gas capacity from 80 MMcfd to 200 MMcfd. All associated gas produced from the field will be dedicated to Côte d'Ivoire's domestic market, supporting local power generation, industrial expansion and national energy self-sufficiency.
The landmark FID marks a critical business breakthrough for Wison New Energies, which has secured the core EPC contract for the new-build FPSO. This key project formally extends Wison's offshore portfolio from FLNG and FPU solutions into high-end FPSO full-turnkey contracting.
