Japanese engineering leader JGC has launched a game-changing standardized FLNG design package in partnership with Honeywell, aiming to slash order-to-delivery timelines by more than 12 months and accelerate global LNG project monetization. This initiative comes hot on the heels of JGC's recent $550 million preliminary contract award for Eni's Coral Norte FLNG project in Mozambique, where it is working alongside Samsung Heavy Industries and Technip Energies to deliver the 3.5 Mtpa vessel.
Building on its proven track record with the 2022-commissioned Coral Sul FLNG—the same trio's first Mozambique project—JGC targets completion of its standardized design package by fiscal year 2026 (ending March 31, 2026). The solution leverages Honeywell's industry-leading AP DMR dual-mix refrigerant liquefaction technology and gas pretreatment systems, integrated with JGC's proprietary high-density modular design approach optimized for limited topside space.
Standardization and modularization have emerged as critical industry trends to address the traditional challenges of FLNG development: long lead times, high costs and complex engineering. JGC's package streamlines FEED workflows, enabling faster project sanction and earlier first gas. It is specifically tailored to unlock small-to-mid-sized gas fields that are uneconomical for onshore development, as well as regions constrained by geography or geopolitical factors.
“By combining Honeywell's core process technologies with our decades of offshore engineering expertise, we are creating a flexible, cost-effective solution that expands LNG project options globally,” stated JGC. The standardized design will not only reduce delivery timelines but also improve project predictability and lower lifecycle costs for operators.
